Chi Omega History

It all began on April 5, 1895, at the University of Arkansas when four women, with the help of a local dentist, established the secrets and symbolism that today bind over 260,000 women. This small band of women founded Chi Omega after realizing a need for an organization that would foster both friendship and respect for the potential and inherent value of women. Over the years, Chi Omega has provided its members with unique opportunities in leadership, scholarship, and lifelong friendship -- striving to provide each sister with a commitment to personal integrity, excellence in academic and intellectual pursuits, intergenerational participation, community service, leadership opportunities, and social enrichment. Chi Omega is the largest women's fraternal organization, with over 411,000 initiates, 181 collegiate chapters, and over 240 alumnae chapters. Throughout Chi Omega's long and proud history, the Fraternity has brought its members equaled opportunities for personal growth and development.

The Alpha Chapter at the University of Washington

In 1909, The Alpha Chapter of Chi Omega was established at the beautiful University of Washington in Seattle. Ever since, we strive to live out Chi Omega's six purposes each and every day -- friendship, high standards of personnel, sincere learning and creditable scholarship, participation in campus activities, career development, and community service.

A letter from the President:

Welcome to Chi Omega Alpha Chapter! My name is Clara Feng and I am honored to serve as president of our chapter for the 2025-2026 academic year.

When I first walked onto campus, I was searching for a place where I could truly belong, a place that would challenge me, support me, and help me grow into the best version of myself. I found all of that and so much more in Chi Omega. This chapter has been nothing short of transformative for my college experience. The women I have met here have become my best friends, my mentors, and my greatest supporters.

Our sisterhood is built on genuine connection, encouragement, and a shared commitment to lifting each other up. Every day brings a new adventure, whether we’re exploring local hiking trails, discovering new restaurants, or enjoying a movie night at the chapter house. I am constantly reminded of how lucky I am to be surrounded by such inspiring, compassionate, and driven women who bring their unique strengths and perspectives to our chapter.

Chi Omega has given me a support system and a home away from home. Through every high and low, I have felt the unwavering love and encouragement of my sisters. They have celebrated my successes, helped me navigate challenges, and pushed me to dream bigger. The friendships I’ve made here are truly lifelong, and I am so grateful for the memories we continue to create together.

It is a privilege to lead this incredible group of women and to witness firsthand the impact our sisterhood has on each member. I am inspired every day by their passion, kindness, and commitment not just to Chi Omega, but to each other and to the greater community.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our chapter and I hope you are able to get a glimpse into our sisterhood! Chi Omega is more than just a sorority, it’s a home, a family, and a place where you will always be supported and celebrated.

Xoxo,

Clara Feng
